Kitchen Uniforms & Accessories
A traditional chef's uniform, or chef's whites, consists of a white toque blanche (tall, pleated hat) to signify cleanliness and status, a double-breasted chef coat made of thick cotton for heat and splash protection and to hide stains by reversing it, loose-fitting houndstooth trousers to conceal stains and allow movement, and a protective apron. Essential accessories include comfortable, non-slip shoes for safety and an optional neckerchief to absorb sweat. Modern uniforms may include different colors to denote rank, and practicality like pockets can be incorporated.
